Citizen D-Class‘ new indie rock/alternative album is a raw, self-produced project that channels years of guitar practice and personal struggle into a powerful emotional release. Crafted on a MacBook Pro gifted by his mum, the album reflects his journey through the highs and lows of living with schizophrenia across 16 individually remarkable tracks that draw on the cinematic sounds of the likes of Pink Floyd and the driving rock elements of Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust. With no band to rely on, he tackled the entire production solo, resulting in a deeply personal work that captures the intensity of both turbulent and peaceful moments and showcasing his impressive skill set across a range of different instruments. Each track offers listeners a glimpse into his world, combining gritty guitar riffs with unfiltered emotion to create a unique soundscape that resonates on a visceral level.
Citizen D Class is a self-styled “punk poet” and musician who crafts raw, eclectic sounds rooted in a wide range of influences, from punk rock to psychedelic and electronic music. With a background as a civil servant in Northern Ireland, Citizen D Class picked up the guitar while working as an admin officer, and his creative journey has been marked by a desire for authenticity and a distinct aversion to social media, preferring instead to live outside the mainstream. Before returning to Northern Ireland, he spent time squatting in London, immersing himself in the punk scene and writing poetry. Over time, however, he grew disillusioned with the scene’s contradictions, fueling his punk ethos and unique sound. Musically, Citizen D Class draws from a collection of over 1,000 albums, with deep appreciation for acts like The Stooges, the Ramones, Shaun Ryder, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. With influences spanning rock, punk, and electronic mainstays like Orbital and Underworld, his style reflects a lifelong love for music that defies simple categorisation.
