Newton Faulkner successfully takes on the spirit of Christmas in delightful folk pop rendition of ‘Driving Home For Christmas’

You would think Newton Faulkner did it all, right? WRONG! The multi-accomplished folk rock extraordinaire has now decided to tackle the realm of a Christmas song, and has teamed up with the original artist’s Niece to help bring the festive cheer and merriness nice and early this year. Chris Rea’s ‘Driving Home For Christmas’ featuring Cat Rea is exactly the type of version you want to hear crafted up by Faulkner and his entourage. It’s light, fresh and contemporary, with a touch of class from the seasoned star.

Cat, also hailing from Middlesbrough like her uncle, brings a welcomed vocal and ensues a lovely harmonious relationship between the pair throughout the track. The instrumental part is also expertly crafted, and even expands on the original further with the modern day production elements that work together so very well indeed. It’s already one for your Christmas playlists, and one for years to come. We are expected to hear more like this from Newton very soon.

Speaking behind the creation of ‘Driving Home For Christmas’, Newton explained:

“I got together with Cat, Niece of Chris Rea to make a new version of ‘Driving Home For Christmas’ that is true to the song but also brings it up to update production-wise. One of the biggest challenges was the, often cut, instrumental section which turned out to be my favourite bit in the end. The finished thing is exactly what I wanted it to be, a Christmas song that I have always loved with a tonne of fresh, modern production twists and stunning vocals from Cat Rea.”
