Born in the vibrant town of Aba, nestled in the heart of Abia State, Nigeria, Chidi Collins’ journey into the world of Gospel music was a calling deeply etched into his soul from a young age. In his early teens, while most were exploring the world around them, Chidi was already cultivating a deep desire to worship God. It was not uncommon for his family to find him in the church, fervently engaged in prayer and worship. Chidi’s musical ministry began in the streets, where he joined an evangelist in spreading the Gospel. Alongside his younger brother, they sang with a passion that resonated with the messages being preached. However, it was a pivotal moment at the age of 15 that transformed Chidi’s music. On the same day he accepted Christ, he was filled with the Holy Spirit, igniting a fire within him that would forever shape his path. Together with his friends, he formed the a cappella group “Philharmonics,” ministering in various churches across Abia state. It was during this period that he penned the now-iconic Nigerian gospel song, ‘Bend Low’. Originally an a cappella piece, the song’s powerful message implores its listeners to surrender to God, allowing His divine work to unfold in their lives. ‘Bend Low’ has since taken on numerous mainstream versions and is now being sung in churches around the world. During his time as a law student at Abia State University (AbSU), Chidi’s fervor for soul-winning and music ministry never wavered. Many of his hit songs were born during these transformative years.
