New Jersey pop-punk quartet Northvale have unveiled hook-laden new single and music video, “Better When I Can”.
Teaming with Seattle’s Palettes, the alternative rockers deliver the emo-tinged anthem with moreish aplomb, as they tackle issues of addiction and self-improvement.
Following their formation in 2020, Northvale wasted no time establishing a heart-on-sleeve, emotive brand of pop-punk that displays the quintessential energy of the genre, whilst delivering honest lyricism and melodic guitar work.
Northvale was conceived on collaboration, and the band ensured this was a fundamental part of their formative work, teaming with The Dangerous Summer’s AJ Perdomo and In Her Own Words’ Joey Fleming on well received early singles “High Tide” and “Sleepwalking”.
Both tracks would appear on the band’s debut EP, The Things We Used To Be, a cathartic, lockdown-busting collection, offering an outlet for Northvale’s tales of loss, heartbreak and acceptance.
Further collaborations with Broadside’s Oliver Baxxter and The Home Team would follow, as Northvale continued to define their sonic identity while growing their fanbase across the East Coast.
Despite two years passing since their last single, new output “Better When I Can” comes as a resonating return from the New Jersey four.
Entering the studio with Brett Romnes (The Movielife, Hot Mulligan, Seaway) and Gary Cioni (Crime In Stereo, Lincoln Hotel Etiquette), “Better When I Can” shows a new level of maturity, without compromising their typically candid storytelling; indeed, the track tackles themes of growing up and addiction with both honesty and hope as Northvale build towards the release of their debut full-length album, set to drop this winter.
