NZ rapper and singer Kings drops latest single, ‘Hit That (Or Nah)’

The King is here and he wants to know…

New Zealand rapper, singer and songwriter Kings releases his latest single ‘Hit That (Or Nah)’.

In a departure from the darker hip-hop elements of previous releases ‘Flex’ and ‘Super (すばらしい).  ‘Hit That (Or Nah)’ takes on a bright and chill R&B/pop vibe.

Kings, real name Kingdon Chapple-Wilson, wrote and produced the track from his studio, which is locaHipted on the grounds of a Marae (Māori stronghold) in New Zealand.

To mark the track’s release, Kings also chose to drop the official lyric video.

For the video, Kings called on fans to record themselves reacting to the tune via social media app, Tik Tok, with select entries appearing throughout. In addition to the fan vids, some hilarious seagull surfing, fighting sea lions and a cheeky old man also feature. Confused? Maybe it’s just one of those things you just have to see for yourself, so check it out below:

As the southern hemisphere gears up for summer, ‘Hit That (Or Nah)’ is the perfect track to celebrate the long, hot days ahead. But for those reading this in cooler climes, don’t fret! The track’s vibes will let you escape reality just long enough to believe you’re on a beach in Aotearoa and not somewhere it’s only 4pm and already as dark outside as it is cold.

‘Hit It (Or Nah)’ is King’s third track to enter Spotify’s weekly New Music playlist for 2019. And the exposure has paid off, with the multi-talented artist now hitting tens of millions of streams.

Kings doesn’t just sing in English, either. Last month, to celebrate Maori Language Week in New Zealand, he re-worked his double-platinum hit, ‘Don’t Worry ‘Bout It’ in to Te Reo Māori (the Māori language), with a new title to match, ‘Kei Aro Atu Koe’.

‘Hit That (Or Nah)’ is out now through King’s record label, Arch Angel Records.
