Paolo Ruiu is back with a bang, announcing his highly anticipated new EP, ‘Last Out’, set to release on June 21st. With a retro and vintage feel, the EP promises a captivating blend of dystopian dreams and nostalgic vibes. Ruiu’s music is a perfect mix of blissful dreaminess and the stark weight of the world, making ‘Last Out’ an emotional journey. The EP’s sound is characterised by guitar tones, dynamic electronic arrangements, and hazy atmospheres, creating an experience that captivates the listener from start to finish.
Sharing his thoughts on the release, Paolo Ruiu states, “The EP reflects a variety of themes, for which I wanted to explore the darker edges, using heavy saturation, multiple distortions and echoes, and pushing further than previously with the detuning of synths and guitars.”
Paolo Ruiu is a multifaceted artist known for his songwriting, production, and multi-instrumental prowess. Raised in South London, the second-generation Sardinian-Brit first gained industry attention as part of the critically acclaimed duo Young Romance. The band’s touring plans were disrupted, prompting Ruiu to delve into his solo career. He then released singles that laid the groundwork for his debut EP. This project was recorded in his home studio using a mixing desk once used by Pink Floyd and a Tascam 424 cassette recorder. This new EP is a celebration of analogue recording, blending Lo-fi Indie, 70’s Psychedelia, and 80’s New Wave with vocals enveloped in waves of echo. Paolo Ruiu’s ‘Last Out’ is a showcase of his evolving artistry, promising listeners a beautiful musical experience.
