Ramona Marx share combative debut EP ‘Splenectomy’

Since their debut in 2019, Ramona Marx has been treated to multiple Spotify editorial additions, critical acclaim in music blogs and opening slots for acts like The Professionals, Panic Shack and Grandma’s House. Their unapologetically raucous sound has given them plenty of props within the UK’s punk scene, now unleashing a debut EP in Splenectomy.

Unstoppable from the first moment, the band never take their foot off the accelerator, charging forward with brutality in their tone and aggression in their lyricism.

Ramona Marx is utterly visceral, crashing down on the listener time after time, the intensity red lining and their momentous stage presence captured in full effect.

The technicality beneath the combative nature is still highly impressive, the rip of distorted guitars, the meticulous, fast-paced nature of the drums and the vocal’s ability to place the half-shouted performance exactly where it needs to be are all signs of the musicianship behind the project, resulting in four tracks of pure punk.

The band dives into the project, sharing, “Splenectomy – the surgical removal of the spleen. Inspired by Sam’s sudden ruptured spleen back in February. ‘Splenectomy’ is a removal of spite.

Pent up anger and hate consumes and devours. This EP is us in our most naked form. We want to surgically remove this spite and serve it up to you on a cold and bitter plate. Our first extended play and our best recordings yet “Splenectomy” represents a new chapter in Ramona Marx. Notably it was recorded and produced by Erik Miles at the Forum Recording studios, who has worked with the likes of Soft Play and Kate Nash’.”
