Rework have been crafting their own brand of icy, no-frills club music for over two decades. Emerging from the early 2000s German underground, they first made waves on the legendary Playhouse label, blending house, electro, and new wave into something sharp and detached. Their music always had a cool, deadpan edge—part post-punk attitude, part after-hours minimalism.
With six albums and a deep catalog spanning Playhouse, My Favorite Robot, Get Physical, and their own exlove records, Rework have left a lasting mark. Their sound sits somewhere between the stripped-back funk of early electroclash and the precision of minimal house, earning them remixes from Trentemøller, Magda, and Andrew Weatherall along the way.
Their latest release, Disco Love, stays true to form. The title track is lean and elastic, riding an acid groove with a mechanical swing. You Keep Me Hanging On pushes into darker, heavier territory, slowly building pressure over a thunderous low-end.
Through it all, Rework remain one step removed—detached but deliberate, keeping their distance while shaping the sound of the dancefloor. Disco Love is out now on exlove records.
