An exploration of faith propels Richard Lynch’s soulful “Radio Friend” (out on January 28th) forward. The song has a charm to it. Guitar work has a majesty to it doing a wonderful ability to nicely complement the power of his voice. Everything about it has a richness to it. Rhythms have a steadiness beyond. Such a density to the work has a beauty behind it. Lyrics here help to reflect upon a whole specific time and place. Joy for the world of music, of faith, all of this has a grandeur to it. Done with incredible and exquisite detail the song has a stately presence.
Hushed wisps of sound start things off in a gentle way. With each additional verse brought into the fray a whole aura starts to form. Out of this imagery a whole entire set of characters take shape. A spirit of community begins to lead the song along. Thanks to all the efforts of each person providing the right amount of reassurance for their compatriots a happiness comes into focus. Quite delicately they let the interplay of the band build up in a naturalist way. Stylistically snippets of country rock, folk, and pop all blend into this peaceful sense. For the song never truly lets up it builds and grows until it fully immerses the listener into a beguiling and realized world.
“Radio Friend” features a bit of loveliness to it as Richard Lynch creates a wonderful world, one that has a tenderness to it.
