Reggae band Riddim Shot released their new single, ‘Chant The Family‘, on December 20th, 2024. The track is a nostalgic tribute to the band’s childhood in Reunion Island, celebrating the joy of family and the innocence of simpler times without technology.
Chant The Family reflects Leslie’s childhood memories of playing with cousins and creating songs about their family. Initially, the song had a more somber tone, but after input from the band’s guitarist, William, the track was reworked to convey a more uplifting and joyful vibe. The result is a vibrant and feel-good anthem that brings back cherished memories while still embracing the roots reggae sound. The song was originally recorded by Leslie and later reworked in collaboration with William at their home studio. While the single is set for release, the band has yet to shoot a video for the track.
The band’s name was inspired by a playful word game combining Rim Shot and Riddim, a nod to reggae’s rich musical tradition. Initially, Leslie composed music solo, but it wasn’t until meeting William that the duo decided to form Riddim Shot. The band gained local attention in Toulouse, especially after their performance at the Hootananny in Brixton, England, where they received their first pull-up, an achievement that marked a significant milestone in their journey. Riddim Shot is a reggae band based in Toulouse, France, formed in July 2017. Their music blends a variety of genres including pop, soul, blues, jazz, and funk, all with a distinctive roots reggae twist. Their sound features one drop drumming, deep bass lines, and infectious skank rhythms, providing a fresh and unique take on classic reggae.
