The sound of Rila’s Edge has been crafted over the course of half a decade. In that time, the band have garnered hundreds of thousands of streams, built playlisting and radio support, and performed alongside a slew of fellow up-and-comers at festivals and shows across the UK. The five-piece now releases ‘Undone’, a brand new single that falls in line with a recent and impressive string of track releases.
The music has a nostalgic feel, coming from palm-muted, almost hushed verses into huge and stadium-filling choruses. There’s a fresh face on this early 2000s sound, with an indie rock crispness that features the screaming fuzz of guitars from Ollie and Jacob and an outcry from vocalist Alfie.
‘Undone’ is one of those tracks that has a sense of familiarity the first time you hear it, but has this rush of something new and exciting alongside it. All told it’s an attention-grabbing anthem.
Ollie explains some of the themes, “The lyrics were written when I was suffering with depression and feelings of low self-worth. I had also just entered my first proper relationship and was completely in love. With those two events happening, I kept thinking about how people say ‘you need to love yourself before you can love someone else’. I felt like that statement didn’t ring true for me at the time and I hadn’t ever heard anyone dispute the saying before, so I decided to write about how love and low-self worth interact.
The verses are the inner reflections and the chorus is the expression of the reflection. Musically, I wanted the verses to sound like an old rock and roll track from the 50’s and then explode into a big, open, indie chorus.”
