RUINS unveil the dark ‘Low Postcards’

Ruins hail from Liverpool and consist of two members, Lloyd Rock and Nik Kavanagh. The pair have developed a local reputation that has seen them share the stage with China Crisis, A Flock of Seagulls and Unknown Territories.

Their latest, ‘Low Postcards,’ sees the alt-pop duo set a nostalgic, introspective and shadowy tonality from the very first drum machine loop.

The subtle introduction of glassy pianos lifts a mysterious, emotive vocals into the high falsettos of the chorus and guides it through reserved and thoughtful verses.

At first glance, it brings feelings of emptiness, both in tone and arrangement, but look a little deeper, and their production, though subtle, is intentional and has more to it than you would first expect.

Here’s what Lloyd had to say about the track: “The song is about fear: fear of being truthful; fear of repercussions; fear of losing something important; fear of change. Fear is tethered to anxiety; they inhabit possible worlds and manifest elemental power over our choices. I wanted to express this tension. It’s deeply personal yet universal, a reflection of something we all face when deciding whether to tell your truth, or not.”
