A Maryland-based artist with South Indian heritage, SABS is on a mission, led by a noir-pop sound, merging the world of art and raw sentiment, inviting those who will listen to take the journey with her. Since her debut in 2023, she’s had music featured in various films and joined her contemporaries at songwriting camps. All of this positions her style as something new and enticing to observe in 2025.
Her latest track, and the second of a busy start to the year, is ‘justlikethat’, which, though beginning with a plucky, tension-building synth bass slowly removing its filter, finishes with a sleek but subtle power. Vocals are tight and intentional, capturing sweeping synthesisers and a dark assertion.
Hardened by physical and emotional turmoil, the lyricist feels no need to lash out but systematically picks apart a deep internal struggle without a need for joy to cloud her vision. Raw, lushly produced, but unquestionably punchy, SABS begins to rise.
She explains, “I wrote ‘justlikethat’ while reflecting on a toxic relationship I got pulled into. I spent so much energy trying to make this person happy, even when it hurt me—emotionally and physically. Writing this song was my way of reminding myself that I don’t owe anyone my peace and that I have the right to put myself first. The production mirrors that journey—the verses feel raw and vulnerable, but when the chorus hits, there’s this confident, almost defiant energy with an edgy groove. I hope ‘justlikethat’ reminds you to protect your energy and empowers you to stand your ground—because we owe it to ourselves to choose ourselves, as often as we can.”
