Semeli Tagara blurs the line between madness and clarity on ‘Insane Sane’

Greek artist Semeli Tagara continues to push sonic boundaries with her latest release, Insane Sane, via Fine! Records. A mesmerizing fusion of experimental jazz, electronic textures, and ethereal vocals, the album cements Tagara’s place among avant-garde innovators like Morphine, Portishead, and Melanie di Biasio.

Building on the momentum of her summer EP Horizon and recent singles “The One” and “1,2,3”, Insane Sane immerses listeners in a world where sound and emotion move in tandem. The album’s duality—insanity versus sanity—is embodied in standout tracks like “Absolute Grace” and “Something 2”, where moments of euphoric disco energy dissolve into stark lyrical revelations.

The album’s opener, “Future Idea”, serves as a hypnotic entry point, introducing Tagara’s signature blend of haunting melodies, unconventional rhythms, and cinematic production. Elsewhere, her poetic lyricism cuts deep, unafraid to explore themes of longing, desire, and self-discovery.

Born in Thessaloniki, Semeli Tagara has been composing music since the age of six. After signing with Sony Music in 2002, she has shared the stage with an eclectic mix of artists, from Calexico and Dot Allison to David Lynch and Red Snapper. Her work extends beyond music into performance art and film scoring, with notable collaborations including the die Wolke art group and sound design for short films and theatrical performances.

With Insane Sane, Semeli Tagara delivers a deeply evocative and sonically daring experience—one that challenges perceptions, invites introspection, and commands movement. It’s an album that lingers long after the final note, proving once again that Tagara thrives in the beautiful tension between chaos and control.
