Something for You: Lawrence Preston’s Latest Single Takes the World by Storm on Tour with Don Laka

Lawrence Preston is not just an incredible singer – he is a skilled-songwriter, studio producer, and multi-instrumentalist, with a focus on the bass as his primary instrument. His latest single, “Something for You,” is a testament to his effortless and soothing song-writing style, incorporating surprising influences from the worlds of jazz and gospel.

This is what Lawrence calls “Eclectic Soul,” a sound that will captivate fans of classic soul and those craving authentic musicianship. Born and raised in San Francisco, Lawrence was exposed to music at a young age, with both his parents and grandfather heavily involved in their local church’s gospel group. Showing natural talent from a young age, Lawrence joined his first family gospel group, The Fantastic Four, at the age of five. From there, he honed his musical skills, learning to play multiple instruments and eventually making a name for himself as the bass player in Dorothy Morrison’s gospel band in the 1980s.

Lawrence’s musical journey has led him to explore a variety of genres, from gospel and blues to R&B and jazz. His love for jazz is evident in his music, giving him a unique sound that sets him apart from other artists in the soul and funk-based fraternity of the San Francisco Bay Area. Some have even compared his bass-playing skills to those of iconic musicians such as Marcus Miller and Stanley Clarke. Despite his years of experience, Lawrence is still growing and evolving as an artist. His recent tour with the legendary Don Laka has given him the opportunity to showcase his talents to an international audience.

His label is home to The Celestial Stars, a gospel group featuring Lawrence’s father and cousins, who have already made waves with their hit single “Get Ready.” Even amidst his busy schedule, Lawrence finds time to write and produce music for his own album, which is sure to be another hit among fans of his eclectic soul sound. Lawrence Preston is a true testament to the power of real soul that still exists in the music world today. Through his effortless combination of soul, jazz, and gospel influences, he continues to captivate audiences with his signature sound.
