With their second album on the horizon, Sŵnami are back with the new single ‘Paradis Disparu’. The Welsh language indie group have reached new heights in recent years, with previous releases like ‘Be Bynnag Fydd’ and ‘Theatr’ establishing the band as ones to watch for unique instrumentation and strong poppy melodies.
After winning a Welsh Language Album of the Year award as well as a Maida Vale BBC session from their self-titled debut album, Sŵnami’s artful guitars and pure indie-pop sound have seen them land in magazines like Clash and the Wales Art Review. With a music video also on its way starring Callum Scott-Howells from Channel 4’s ‘It’s A Sin’, ‘Paradis Disparu’ looks to tackle deep themes of grief and loss on the stunning new track.
Speaking last year about not writing and performing in English, band member Gruff Jones told the BBC: “If people like Christine and the Queens can sing in French and Sigur Ros in their own made-up language, why can’t we sing in Welsh?” Meanwhile, speaking about the new single, Ifan Davies says: “Paradis Disparu is about the impossible task of moving on after losing someone. It’s about spiraling into mania, and trying to accept that although what once was, is dead and lost, life must go on.”
