Brooklyn-based songwriter/producer/instrumentalist duo The Hogstad Brothers use live mixing to create an immersive and danceable listening experience. Jonathan and Brandon, the pair behind the project, are originally from Palmdale, California but moved to New York in 2008 and immediately began to get involved with the music scene, writing and collaborating wherever possible.
Their debut studio album, Creatures in the Dirt, has now been released and showcases many of their experimental ideas alongside rich and palatable soundscapes.
They share, “A lot of struggles were happening in our lives when we wrote this album. Our exploration of these struggles happened alongside and through the sonic and lyrical explorations found in these songs. ‘Creatures in the Dirt’ is ultimately about a tumultuous journey towards compassion for ourselves and one another.”
Creatures in the Dirt echo the surroundings in which it was created, bouncing between different emotions and making progress along the way. Fuzzy synths, heavily processed vocals and disjointed drum machines are all present. The sonics create visual ideas, making the innovative nature an even more visceral experience.
