6-piece collective Seafarers are back with a fresh new album, ‘Another State’. Since their formation in 2018, Seafarers have long been known to span the worlds of indie rock, chamber pop and jazz, and their latest offering intertwines these perfectly. The lead track, ‘Televangelists‘, is a contemplative, beautifully crafted piece, demonstrating Seafarers‘ continued commitment to thoughtful and intricate musical storytelling.
Recorded at Real World Studios, ‘Another State’ is another thoughtful and intricate release, following in the footsteps of debut album ‘Orlando’ which laced threads of freedom, solitude and longing, and second album ‘II’ which explored the bittersweet depths of teenager-dom. At 10 tracks long, listeners can expect further introspection from ‘Another State’, following the tradition of layering intricate instrumentation within each track to create a subtle yet impactful listen. Lead track ‘Televangelists‘ opens with a hauntingly beautiful piano melody, which establishes a soft, contemplative tone. Though primarily mellow, the song’s emotional depth steadily builds, hinting at a bittersweet sense of longing and reflection, much like the band’s earlier explorations. ‘Another State‘ offers a sophisticated balance between simplicity and depth, reflective of the band’s evolution.
Seafarers innate alignment with one another and their undisputed mastery takes ‘Another State’ to a new level of excellence and immersion, comprising its observational lyricism, instrumental virtuosity, production value and overall listening experience. Originator and renowned Scottish saxophonist and songwriter, Matthew Herd, brings refined craftsmanship to each composition whilst highly revered vocalist and improviser, Lauren Kinsella, can be heard carrying the evocative female lead which transpires throughout the entirety of ‘Another State‘. Arun Thavasothy co-commands the electric guitar, acoustic guitar and bass alongside Tom McCredie, another stellar bass and guitar player bringing years of experience and a firmly established reputation to the band. Pianist, Tom Taylor, brings a grounding, personable quality to each track with his intimate compositions and improvisations whilst Dave Hamblett’s drumming is excellently executed as a frequent fixture.
Having previously received critical acclaim across various music voices and outlets including AllMusic, RnR Magazine, The Arts Desk and Atwood Magazine, Seafarers are sure to receive similar if not higher praise for ‘Another State‘ considering their continued dedication and evolving exposure. The endlessly talented 6-piece continue to thrive individually and soar to unimaginable heights together. ‘Another State‘ is available to stream now on all major platforms.
