These Brittle Bones showcases new sounds with single ‘You Are All (I Know)’

Chris Jones started releasing music under the moniker These Brittle Bones in 2012. Across the span of the project, the sound of These Brittle Bones has morphed from the folk-origins that Chris experienced in his Singapore-based youth, to the ambient-electronic instrumentalism that has become his passion in his London-based twenties.

The third in a six single project that aims to convey the emotions of the pandemic through instrumentalism alone, ‘You Are All (I Know)’ is the latest from These Brittle Bones. The track once again takes influences from neoclassical, atmospheric and electronic composers, creating a track that builds through a lush atmosphere of glittery synths and gentle percussion, a Lo-Fi sound we are all familiar with. The track then expands, it’s celestial keys taking a backseat to a high-energy percussion led section that breaks free from the previous sounds Jones’ has portrayed. It’s exciting, expansive and technically impressive.

Talking about the new single, he shares, “‘You Are All (I Know)’ has been in gestation for roughly six years. I came up with the initial riff in 2017 and the tune has been floating about since then in various forms – acoustic, electronic, with vocals, without – but the final version emerged out of a particularly creative burst of energy during lockdown. Revising this song over such a long period, during which time I’ve gone through some huge changes, I feel like I’m time travelling to some extent, or at least having a conversation with former selves. In many ways that reflects what I think the song was originally about – self-knowledge, development, and the passing of time.”
