Spending her time between the cities of New York and Bratislava, TIMEA has been making it onto the radar of tastemakers since her 2020 debut. Performing across Europe and the UK, she manages cosy moments with euphoric heights, crafting a unique indie pop feeling. As 2024 rounds out, she releases ‘sick of playing pretend’, looking ahead to the release of her debut album in the spring of next year.
The track starts with thin, pointed piano chords and delicate vocal performances. These then allow vocoder production and twinkling counter melodies to emerge, adding plenty of colour to the sound. The additions continue, a solemn kick queueing up to introduce intensifying, off-kilter drums that quickly become an essential piece. It’s a constantly evolving single, pulling the listener in all directions with creative and dynamic choices. At its core, however, it remains an enticing bit of indie songwriting.
TIMEA adds, “I wrote this song about the bitter after-taste of a breakup when you are missing the person so much and wonder if you could ever be friends again. I don’t understand the whole concept of cutting the person who once meant the most completely out of my life. ‘Sick of Playing Pretend’ is all about trying to act like I don’t miss that person anymore whilst admitting to be asking the question, can we ever be friends?
