Tom Hugo reveals new single ‘Royal’

Tom Hugo, lead member and composer of pop powerhouse band KEiiNO, has revealed a brand new solo single – the breezy, summery pop song ‘Royal’.

‘Royal’ marks a shift in style from Tom’s work with KEiiNO, focusing on his voice with an acoustic backing. The main character in the lyrics is a young person who tries to deceive himself, not accepting who he is. The story was inspired by Tom’s own childhood,  growing up in a conservative part of Norway. Tom will perform with KEiiNO at Bergen Pride this Saturday, June 10th, and later Jessheim and Oslo Pride.

Tom’s new solo body of work was written with his husband (and fellow KEiiNO lyricist) Alex N.O. Tom explains: “Isolated in the sleepy hometown of mine in Norway during the pandemic, I spent some of the extra time at hand writing a collection of songs inspired by stories from our own and other LBGTQ+ persons’ lives. As I come from a pretty conservative part of the country it’s common that anyone different from the majority can still be seen as ‘outcasts’. I wanted to write songs which normalise being different, and shine a light on anyone struggling with fitting in.”.

Tom and Alex hope that these songs will foster acceptance of diversity and help those who feel misunderstood or mislabeled regardless of sexual orientation.
