With releases on established labels such as Lowly, as well as a consistent string of singles, Toyko are one of the most exciting names currently rising within the buzzing hyperpop scene and beyond. Comprised of Los Angles based songwriters and producers Matt Wiggers and Zac White, Toyko have been making sure to stay overly active in 2020 already, sharing their brand new EP Body Pillows, Vol. 2 earlier this year, followed by their latest single “How Do You Sleep at Night?.”
Now, Toyko are back with what might arguably be their best single to date, dropping uplifting gem “Looking For Fun,” an uncompromising vibe that is driven by exciting vocals and an explosive instrumental. Short but sweet, “Looking For Fun” showcases all the elements that make Toyko unique, as it’s filled with playful melodies, distorted bass and high-energy drums, that intertwine to create an intoxicating result with massive replay value.
“When I was writing the song lyrics I was writing them from my experience of just being kinda socially awkward. It might just be my internal monologue- but sometimes I get this impression that when I first meet new people I’m extra reserved and come off as uptight/shy. But then there’s this other side of me that once I just cross the boiling point of barely knowing someone I really put my full weird/crazy self out there and maybe go a little overboard. These sorts of behaviours I have combined with a previous history with alcohol/partying are what kind of fuelled the narrative in this song,” explain Toyko about the meaning behind “Looking For Fun.”
