Manchester musicians Pomona Park‘s new single, ‘Seasons‘, captures the uneasy introspection that often comes with colder months and is the perfect soundtrack for the upcoming autumn season. The track delves into the cyclical craving for companionship during the dark days of autumn and winter with the pathetic fallacy seasonal shifts illustrated in the lyrics—like “I just want a boyfriend for the winter”— which feed an anxious spiral of “what ifs” about the future when the days brighten again. Recorded at Kempston Street Studios with producer Alex Quinn, Seasons evolved from a bedroom demo into a refined indie pop piece that pairs Chris Smith’s introspective lyrics with a tight, atmospheric arrangement from bandmates Aaron Wrigglesworth, James Reid, and Bobby Mears. This single follows their summer release, The Ick, and offers listeners an intimate, relatable soundtrack to their own autumn. After being played by Dave Monks on BBC Introducing Liverpool, it is clear that Seasons is bound to light up the north west indie scene.
Driven by the mantra of “youthful optimism and lyrical charm,” Pomona Park are a Manchester indie-pop band capturing listeners with songs that mix relatable storytelling with jangly, upbeat instrumentals that will have you toe-tapping and head bopping from the first beat. Formed in 2021, Pomona Park emerged from the UK’s post-lockdown landscape, beginning as “The Quays” after frontman Chris Smith and bassist Bobby Mears collaborated on material during isolation. Joined by Aaron Wrigglesworth on drums and James Reid on guitar, the band adopted the name Pomona Park to mark a new chapter in each of their careers. Inspired by prolific lyricists like Alex Turner and Sam Fender, their music channels the playful, energetic vibe of The Royston Club while nodding to Mancester’s iconic ‘Madchester’ scene whilst never overstepping the line into pastiche. Their debut single, Overdrink, broke into the UK Alternative Charts, followed by more chart success and airplay on Radio X and Sirius XM’s Little Steven’s Underground Garage. Having sold out venues like Gulliver’s and The Lion’s Den, Pomona Park continues to grow their dedicated following – keep up to date with all their artistry using the links below!
