Over the course of three full length albums released so far, Ruban Nielson has taken his Unknown Mortal Orchestra project from a lo-fi garage rock band to an ultra-slick groovy, pop-rock beast. Today UMO returns with ‘American Guilt’, their first new single in a little while, which suggests that they’re still growing and evolving as a band.
‘American Guilt‘ finds Nielsen on his favourite weapon, the guitar, but blown out to theatrical and radical proportions, giving the song an off-the-wall and in-your-face-punch. Beneath the squall there’s UMO’s natural grooves, which keep the song flowing and coursing, before smashing into the chorus where Nielson evocatively sings “Oh no, here it comes, the American guilt.” Check out ‘American Guilt‘ below.
No further information has been given about an album, but it seems extremely likely that one will be announced soon, as Unknown Mortal Orchestra have set up a huge tour from April through July, with UK tour stops including London’s Roundhouse in late May. More info here.
