We Chat To UK Singer-songwriter Gideon Foster For Brand New Release ‘Come The Rain’

Hi Gideon. It’s an absolute privilege to be interviewing you for Music Crowns and we truly love your music and vision as a creator. We’d really like to find out more…

•  How much of Gideon Foster the artist is linked to the real everyday Gideon?

I think I’m at a point now where the artist is the everyday me, I had a spiritual awakening 10 years ago which was the catalyst for me writing songs although I didn’t know it at the time, it takes you quite a while to figure out what’s happened, I can only explain it as the universe tapping you on the shoulder and saying the life you’re living is not what you are. Music really came as a means of healing for me, but it wasn’t until later really that I connected the two, the elephant in the room was the awakening so I started writing songs about it.

•  Your new single ‘Come The Rain’ is such a beautiful piece. Congratulations. What was the main inspo for it?

Thank you ! It’s really a song about the process I’ve been through, I tend to describe it as giving up control to a higher power, to anyone who has been through this kind of experience it’s actually very hard to put your trust in what is effectively walking in the dark, whether I ever had that control I don’t know to be honest. The song was really about the frustrations of feeling out of control and then the sadness of letting go of what we once thought life would look like going forwards and embracing a very unknown future.

•  What’s the music scene like where you’re based?

I’m lucky where I live as I’m in the Calder Valley in West Yorkshire which has a thriving creative scene, but I’m also only about an hour from Manchester which has a lot going on.

•  Tell us more about your creative process of writing a song.

I don’t really write to any set agenda , ideas seem to arrive out of the blue really which is the letting go of control. From a musical point of view I really write with an acoustic guitar and the words I sometimes think are just things we get from the ether , I’ve suddenly had phrases in my head and you think, can I write that , what does it even mean? But usually it makes sense in time. The recording is really where I work with my producer and we try and take the original acoustic idea in a more interesting direction and give it a fuller sound, but the original idea is still intact underneath all that.

•  What interests or hobbies do you have outside of music?

I love being outdoors, it’s a real source of inspiration for me, other than that I like cooking, travelling and seeing friends, watching gigs and I used to play cricket so I still watch from time to time together with an unhealthy attachment to Burnley Football Club who have mastered the art of disappointing their fans over the years.
