There’s growing support around Winter Gardens as they catch the ears of tastemakers and fans alike. Since they began, they’ve supported Echo & The Bunnymen, Gary Numan and Modern English, graced festival stages and dove headfirst into Europe.
The Brighton-based five-piece now releases the EP Uncomfortable/Unlovable, mixed by Luke Marsden and mastered by Andy Miles.
The project flows from track to track with a continued sense of motif, there’s cohesiveness not just in the production and instrumentation, but in the melodies and harmonies themselves. With that, they are still unique in stylisation, with both gritty indie flair and an atmospheric synthesised edge taking centre stage at different moments.
Trying to list the highlights means you’d have to talk about every minute detail because there’s so much to like about this project. It’s momentous at all angles and intensifying when necessary. Celestial shoegaze is brooding, energised and intense.
Emotionally, there are moments of anger, pain and sadness, all delivered with bold confidence. When words fail, they never shy away from letting a purely instrumental section drive the track. To be short, it’s a refreshing dose of talent and intricacy from the quintet.
