Alexandra Burke’s mother and Soul II Soul singer Melissa Bell dies aged 53

Soul II Soul‘s Melissa Bell has died at age 53, her daughter Alexandra Burke confirmed on Twitter.

The Burke family shared a statement on Twitter yesterday (29th August) which read: “We will never forget her unconditional love, support, charisma, strength, and courage throughout her life.”

Melissa Bell enjoyed a long career in music joining Soul II Soul in 1993, recording and touring with the band until 1995. Following her departure from the band, she embarked on her solo career and fronted the band Soul Explosion in 1999.

In 2008, her daughter Alexandra won The X Factor and two years after this Bell released her book, Heart and Soul: The Emotional Autobiography of Melissa Bell, Alexandra Burke’s Mother.
