Today was a sad day for Icelandic Ed Sheeran fans, or so they thought. It was mistakenly reported in an Icelandic newspaper that the highly acclaimed singer had died.
Sheeran’s face appeared in the Morgunblaðið newspaper alongside an obituary for an 82-year-old mechanic called Gunnari Sigurðsson.
Fans from the country took to Twitter after noticing the grave mistake pointing out the error.
One user wrote: “This obituary appeared in today’s @morgunbladid (Icelandic newspaper) I think someone might be getting fired today. #rip.”
Whilst another tweeted: “Hate to break it to u but Ed Sheeran is dead. It also turns out he is a 82 year old Icelandic man called Svavar. Ed Sheeran was apperantly only his stage name…. #ripsvavarsheeran“
