Listen to a previously unreleased David Bowie demo with Nile Rodgers

To celebrate David Bowie‘s birthday, which would have been his 71st today (8th January), Parlophone has shared a previously unreleased demo version of his 1983 track ‘Let’s Dance‘.

The new version of the track with Chic‘s Nile Rodgers was created by a band consisting of Bowie, Rodgers, Erdal Kizilcay, and others and was recorded in Montreux, Switzerland back in 1982. Listen to the ‘Let’s Dance‘ demo version below.

I woke up on my first morning in Montreux with David peering over me,” Rodgers explained in a statement about the recording. “He had an acoustic guitar in his hands and exclaimed, ‘Nile, darling, I think this is a HIT!’

Rodgers went on to explain that not only did that demo become a blueprint for the official song but also the entire Let’s Dance album. “The time we spent mixing it just before Christmas was full of tears as it felt like David was in the room with us. Happy Birthday David, I love you and we all miss you!
