Taylor Swift plans to trademark phrases from new album for merchandise

Taylor Swift is reportedly planning to trademark various phrases and titles from her new album, Reputation, for merchandising purposes.

According to TMZ, Swift has filed to trademark a number of catchphrases and titles from the new album including the line, “The old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now“. This line was taken from her new record breaking track ‘Look What You Made Me Do‘, the title of which she is also planning to lock down. The trademarked copy is reportedly going to be used for an extensive range of merchandise including everything from guitar picks to t-shirts.

The singer previously attempted to trademark key phrases from her 2014 record, 1989, including ‘Nice To Me Ya, Where Ya Been?” and ‘Blank Space‘.

Swift recently came under fire for her involvement with a controversial ‘Verified Fan’ initiative with Ticketmaster, ‘Taylor Swift Tix powered by Ticketmaster Verified Fan‘. The scheme was put in place to help fans beat bots and scammers in online queues to purchase gig tickets. They were able to up their chances of furthering in the lines by sharing Taylor Swift’s content and pre-ordering her new album up to 13 times. Read more about this here.

Her new album, Reputation, is set for release on 10th November and earlier this week she shared a new single from the record, ‘…Ready For It?‘.
