The interview took place a week before the US rock legend’s death.
Tom Petty suffered a cardiac arrest on 1st October and sadly passed away the following day. One week prior to his death, Petty played his final gig at the Hollywood Bowl. Two days later he gave an interview with the Los Angeles Times. Listen to the full recording here.
In the interview, Petty spoke about how hard he had been working and his unwillingness to take time off: “I just have to learn to rest a little bit, like everyone’s telling me. I need to stop working for a period of time.”
“It’s hard for me. If I don’t have a project going, I don’t feel like I’m connected to anything. I don’t even think it’s that healthy for me. I like to get out of bed and have a purpose.”
He had said that he planned to take time off but that he and the band had no plans to stop recording or performing.
