On Monday night, Tom Waits joined Mavis Staples on stage for his first performance in two years.
The performance saw Waits join Staples for a rendition of the Staples Sisters classic, ‘Respect Yourself‘. The iconic singer-songwriter’s last public performance was back in 2015 on the David Letterman show.

Mavis Staples’ new record If All I Was Was Black is due for release on 17th November and features songs written by her collaborator and producer, Jeff Tweedy. The LP will be released via Anti, the record label she shares with Waits.
Her last album was 2016’s Livin On A High Note whilst this year she featured on Arcade Fire‘s track ‘I Give You Power‘.
