Don Barclay has returned to the fray with a gorgeous new single, building on his 2019 release Paper Kites which went live towards the tail end of December. ‘Stronger’ is similar in its methods to its predecessor, revolving around crafted acoustic-guitar and airy vocal lines that wrap around poignant narratives. Clearly Don’s arsenal is loaded with hooky melodies and sing-a-long melodies, and it’s clearly showcases in ‘Stronger’. We urge you to dive in below:
We caught up with Don about the release, in which he explained:
“Stronger is about two people coming together in difficult times and sparking a passion for each other. It speaks of memories ingrained in us from childhood and moving forward in a strong and positive way and using any pain felt from the past as fuel to move on. Another concept is – ‘burn yesterday and bring tomorrow home’- One of the lyrics from the song. I once had a dream where my father and I spoke about life then he simply said ‘Now I gotta go’. He passed when I was 17 and I use this in the song lyrics. The song is about hope, passion and strength to be the best version of yourself. “
Having been compared to Ben Howard, Alt J and James Gillespie, Don’s heart on his sleeve mentality presents a refreshing breath on honesty. Don doesn’t do bravado, neither does he do the typical throw-away lyricism, and that’s why this release is that little bit more special.
