The prolific psychedelic outfit have released their game ‘Mars for the Rich‘ in preparation for their upcoming album.

When will King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard stop to catch their breath? Since 2012, the band have released 14 studio albums (five of which were released in 2017), toured constantly and are now making video games for fans to play for free.

The Melbourne septet must be exhausted, yet, like the mad psych-soldiers they are, the band have created a game entitled ‘Mars for the Rich ahead of the release of their second album of 2019, Infest the Rats’ Nest. Watch the album’s lead single ‘Planet B’ below.

The game is a vintage-styled first person shooter similar to DOOM, which sees you finding your way across the map whilst fighting off hordes of vicious rats.  ‘Mars for the Rich’ has been described as a homage to action shooters from the 90s and is named after a track from their upcoming record.

You’re sure to see a heap of King Gizzard references crop up throughout your rat-infested travels. Also, If this isn’t cool enough already, the psych band handle all of the game’s music.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s new album Infest the Rats’ Nest will be out this Friday. It marks another stylistic shift for the group, incorporating elements of thrash metal to the band’s signature psychedelic sound.
