Watch Brooks Hubbert demonstrate the Waterphone

The Waterphone is a fascinating instrument invented by Richard Waters. Each unique instrument is made to order and has been compared to melodies of the Humpback Whale and voices from inner/outer space.

Described as an acoustic synthesizer, the instrument is made from a stainless steel and bronze monolithic which utilizes water in the interior of the resonators to bend tones and create water echoes. The tonal rods are tuned to a combination of microtonal and diatonic relationships presented in two distinct but integrated scales having both even and uneven increments. Check out the video below to see a demonstration of the incredible instrument.
